MFA DT Thesis Show Co-Chair
For the inaurgural year of MFA DT students formally electing representatives from each Thesis class, Jennifer Sharpe, Jeanna Hamilton, and I were Co-Chairs for the Student Reps.
As Co-Chair of the Student Committee, we planned, coordinated, and administered the MFA Design + Technology Thesis gallery exhibit and Symposium. Our responsibilities included leading weekly meetings with all Thesis student representatives, assigning teams and ensuring accurate completion of tasks, designing website and gallery layout, and developing the student panel Symposium.
For the first time since the program began, the MFA Design and Technology department was awarded the premier, on-campus exhibition space, Kellen Gallery, for two full weeks. The Thesis committee was tasked with fitting over 90 students within the confines of this gallery.
After initial meetings that involved white-boards, post-it notes and enthusiastic dialouge that outlined the entire show, Jeanna Hamilton produced a Sketch-Up file which we used to finalize the layout and to receive formal approval from the department and the gallery staff.
After receiving approval, we led the team of student volunteers who built all podia and tables for the exhibition as well as oversaw the installation of all projects and signage.
